Post SV Mühlhausen reaches TTBL Quarterfinals

Post SV Mühlhausen captured the final quarterfinal berth in the German Table Tennis Cup with a 3–2 victory over TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt on Sunday at the LOTTO Thüringen Center Court in TTBL.
The deciding doubles went the full distance before Steffen Mengel and Marcos Freitas sealed the win, keeping Mühlhausen alive in three competitions this season.

Mengel & Freitas Seal the Deal

The packed crowd held its breath until the last rally as Mengel and Freitas clinched the match 3–2, igniting wild celebrations.
Head coach Erik Schreyer praised Kay Stumper, who had missed Friday’s league match through illness but returned to play a pivotal role:

“That we could even field three players today deserves special praise—especially for Kay and his team-first attitude.”

Duda Returns, Freitas Strikes Back

Bergneustadt brought Benedikt Duda back into the lineup, and the German international dominated Ovidiu Ionescu in straight games.
But the marquee clash came when Marcos Freitas avenged his Friday league loss to Romain Ruiz, winning 3–1 with his sharpest performance of the season.

Stumper’s Key Point

After the break, a still-recovering Kay Stumper fought past Adrien Rassenfosse 3–1, a critical swing in the tie.
Although Ionescu fell again in his second singles, Mengel and Freitas combined to finish the job in the deciding doubles.

Looking Ahead to the Final Four

Mühlhausen now stands one victory away from the Final Four on 4 January 2026 in Neu-Ulm.
Coach Schreyer joked that a second-division opponent would be a welcome draw but noted the tight calendar:

“It won’t be easy to find a date—we still have the Champions League Round of 16 coming up.”
