WTT Contender Rio de Janeiro is getting more and more exciting as home favorite, Bruna Takahashi goes into Semi-Finals of the event after doing multiple upsets of the top seeded players in the Women’s Category. In the Men’s Category, the top seed Hugo Calderano faced an upset from Korea’s Cho Seungmin. Let’s look at Bruna’s journey till now in the event.
Bruna Takahashi will face Linda Bergstorm of Sweden in WTT Contender Rio De Janeiro 2023.
In quaterfinal, Bruna had a challenge against a rising star from Korea, Lee Eunhye (Currently World ranked #71), who has been in a very strong form in recent tournament. Bruna took the game easily after early setback in the second set.
Bruna Takahashi defeated the Taipei player, Li Yu-Jhun in a very close game with a 3-2 set score. Bruna gave away early points to Li on missing multiple attacking shots but she finally took control when her forehand hits started to land on the long side of the table which costed Li Yu-Jhun the match.
Bruna Takahashi scored herself an upset win over Elizabeta Samara, defeating the World No.#26 in four games (11-13, 14-12, 11-5, 11-7).
The biggest moment came in the second game as Samara led 10-4, poised to take a two-games lead. In total Takahashi saved eight game points before levelling the score 1-1. From then on the ball was in Bruna’s court and she pressed the advantage, seizing the win.
“The game was very tough, but I think I managed to stay focused throughout the game. In the second set she had a good advantage, but she relaxed because of it. I believed in myself and used that for me.” Bruna Takahashi
