Brazil’s Hugo Calderano wins WTT Contender Durban 2023

Brazil’s Superstar Hugo Calderano win’s first WTT title of 2023, the world rank #7 made splendid display with a winning start of WTT Contender Durban 2023. Hugo previously won WTT Star Contender Doha, 2021 and the WTT Contender Tunis, 2022.

Hugo’s winning Journey

Hugo started his campaign with straight sets victories against the England’s Paul Drinkhall and the India’s Snehit Suravajjula. Chinese Lin Shidong gave a tough fight to Hugo in the quarter-finals where Hugo came out on top by winning with a 3-2 set score.

In Semifinal, Hugo defeated WR #22 Sweden’s Anton Kallberg in 3-1, 11-7, 10-12, 11-6 and 11-5.

In the final, Hugo defeated Ukrainian Yaroslav Zhumudenko with ease by 4-0, winning 11–4, 11–5, 11–2 and 11–8. Yarslov couldn’t find his rhythm against World Rank #7 in first three games and in the fourth game it was too late but nonetheless it was a well fought match.

Hugo will participate in the WTT Contender Doha 2023 from 18th Jan 2023.

Chinese team grabbed 4 titles in WTT Contender Durban

China Table tennis players won 4 titles in WTT Durban 2023.

China’s Qian Tianyi broke open a 1-1 tie after two sets to get past her compatriot Fan Siqi 4-1 to be crowned the women’s singles champion.

Three doubles events of the tournament featured all-Chinese finals. Zhang Rui and Kuai Man beat Qian and Shi Xunyao 3-1 in the women’s doubles final, while Chen Yuanyu and Lin Shidong defeated Xu Yingbin and Xu Haidong 3-1 in the men’s doubles title contention.

Lin and Kuai emerged victorious 3-1 over Xue Fei and Qian in the mixed doubles final on Saturday.

Chinese Team will also head over to WTT Contender Doha 2023.
