Ma Long wins 5th Men’s singles Asian Table Tennis Championship title!

Ma Long, has won the fifth Men’s singles title after defeating World Rank #2 Fan Zhendong in Asian Table Tennis Championship in PyeongChang, Korea. Previously Ma Long was tied with Xu Xin of China with 4 titles each. This championship event comprised a total of 7 competitions, encompassing men’s and women’s singles, doubles, teams, and mixed doubles . Overall, China claimed all the seven titles available in the Asian Championship.

Men’s Singles

Ma Long fought with Fan Zhendong in a very close match that went to the wire. Eventually Ma Long won in five sets after defeating Fan with a set score of 3-2.

  • In the Semifinals, Ma Long defeated Lin Yun Ju of Chinese Taipei in straight sets 3-0
  • Fan Zhendong defeated China’s Liang Jingkun in a 3-1 scoreline. The first game went to an overall 8 deuce!

Men’s Doubles

In the men’s doubles category, China’s Fan Zhendong and Lin Gaoyuan secured a hard-fought victory over their fellow countrymen Ma Long and Wang Chuqin, narrowly winning 3-2 (11-9, 4-11, 11-9, 11-13, 11-8) to claim the championship title.

Women’s Singles

In Women’s Singles, Wang Manyu defeated Sun Yingsha in a 5 set thriller. Both the players showed remarkable athleticism. The first three games were very close but the World No 1 Sun Yingsha was spectacular in forth game but the final set was grabbed by Wang Manyu and she claimed the title with a 3-2 scoreline.

Women’s Doubles

The women’s doubles championship showcased yet another all-Chinese showdown. Wang Manyu and Chen Meng secured a decisive 3-0 victory against Sun Yingsha and Wang Yidi, wrapping up the match in a remarkably quick 27 minutes.

In the semifinal rounds leading to the ultimate showdown, Wang and Chen triumphed over the Japanese pair of Kihara Miyuu and Nagasaki Miyu, while Sun and Wang outperformed South Korea’s Jeon Ji-hee and Shin Yu-bin.

Mixed Doubles

Lin Gaoyuan and Wang Yidi played an amazing attacking game to beat Liang Jingkun and Qian Tianyi with a 3-1 score, earning themselves the gold medal in mixed doubles.

Overall, China claimed all the gold medal titles on 9th and 10th September 2023 in Asian Table Tennis Championships. 🤩
