Recent Tournaments and Performance

In the recent tournaments, the 29-year-old got the better off three top 30 singles players in the African and European legs.

WTT Contender Lagos 2023 - In that tournament, Harmeet, then WR-134, defeated WR-12 Jang Woojin of South Korea at the WTT Contender Lagos and eventually reached the semi-finals before losing to Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Dimitrij Ovtcharov.

I was waiting for this moment for a long time and have been working really hard for the past few years. Back of my mind, I always knew this moment will come and it arrived in Nigeria at the World Contender series. In the African and European leg, I beat three top 30 players – in which one was WR-12 from South Korea. Overall, it was quite good and also gave me a lot of confidence for the upcoming meets.

Asian Games dilemma for Harmeet

Despite being the number 1 player in India, Harmeet Desai is not participating as singles player in Asian games 2023 as the team was announced when Harmeet was not Indian Men’s rank #1 player at that time. To be honest, this is a bit unfair to the player. Currently Sathiyan and Sharath kamal will participate as singles entry from India.

“In their statement, the TTFI have said they chose the singles players based on individuals’ reputation, experience and world ranking points. It’s going to be my third Asian Games and I’ve been playing at the highest level for India for quite a few years so in terms of reputation and experience, there’s no problem there. In terms of ranking points, I’m the top-ranked player in domestic tournaments, and the highest-ranked Indian in world rankings. So I don’t see why I shouldn’t play singles,”
